The Indonesian National Flag Carrier, Garuda Indonesia, commenced direct flight operations between Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali) and London on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
The thrice-weekly service flies direct from Jakarta to London and then returns from London to Denpasar. Garuda will provide short connecting times between Denpasar and Jakarta and Jakarta and Denpasar flights that take approximately 1.5 hours.
The CEO of Garuda Indonesia, I Gusti Ngurah Askhara Danadiputra, said the new Bali-London service was the Airline’s response to market demand. “The opening of the direct flight represents part of Garuda’s continuing commitment to strengthen its international flight network, especially by providing direct connections between London’s Heathrow Airport with Jakarta and Bali,” said Danadiputra.
Arrival statistics for 2018 show the U.K visitors to Bali now occupy the 4th largest source of foreign visitors to Bali with 270,960 visitors – an increase 165% over UK arrivals to Bali in 2017.
Danadiputra said he is very optimistic that the direct flights Jakarta-London-Denpasar will enhance the number of UK tourist traveling to Indonesia while also increasing Garuda Indonesia’s international market share.
The new Jakarta-London-Denpasar route leaves Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 12:05 pm arriving at London’s Heathrow Airport at 8:00 pm local time on the same day. The return leg London Denpasar leaves Heathrow at 9:55 pm arriving at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport at 9:15 pm local time the next day.
The direct service uses a Boeing 777-300 ER in an economy and business class configuration operating three times a week from Indonesia on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
